This model was created in several steps, partly through reverse engineering. It is intended for demonstration of RadTherm's powerful analysis capabilities in lighting and automotive applications.
We began by taking digital photos of a vehicle, and importing these images into Rhino3D CAD software. Using the images as backgrounds, we created curves in 3-D space around the contours of each part relevant to our analysis. From these curves, we created surfaces for each part.
We applied meshes to the surfaces, all within Rhino3D. The meshed edges were merged wherever conduction would take place (welded or molded edges) but not where insulating materials were present, such as rubber seals (which would prevent conduction).
RadTherm can directly import the mesh from a Rhino 1.X file format. This mesh was loaded into RadTherm, and the various parts were assigned thicknesses to the planar mesh and surface conditions. Various other boundary conditions were assigned as detailed in the Model Description.
ThermoAnalytics offers engineering services for this type of model development and analysis, in addition to creating and selling the analytical software. For further information, please view our Services page.
